One of the ironies I see in many of the expedition vehicles is the lack of forethought in design. I do not mean that they didn't think out how to design a camper but rather they didn't think about where will the cooler, toolkit, gun-case, med-kit fit in the expedition vehicle. Many have storage, but not the kind that will fit a Pelican 45QT Elite Cooler, an Armstrong General Mechanics Tool Kit (GMTK), and a Pelican 1770 Long Case in addition to chairs, tables, oars, bikes and such.
For example, the Turtle Expedition folks have been traveling for over four decades. Look at the Turtle V below close to completion
Then, after a few years on the road, the Turtle V has looks like this (Note all the additional external storage that has been bolted on)>
One of the core concepts in designing my EVP is to avoid the above lack of planning. The idea is to identify a vast majority of the bulky items and incorporate them into the initial EVP design, these currently are:
- General Mechanics Tool Kit (GMTK) (23.95" x 14.75" x 17.95")
- 45QT Elite Cooler (29.66" x 20.00" x 19.25" )
- 1770 Long Case (57.42" x 18.48" x 11.23")
- 1660 Cases (x2) (31.59" x 22.99" x 19.48")
- Heavy-duty 5 Gallon Water Containers (x2) (18 3/4"H x 13 1/2"W x 6 3/8"D)
